Zac Veen's two-run homer in the sixth — 111.3 mph off the bat, 406 feet — gave Colorado the lead they kept. The pitcher who benefited was Kyle Freeland, who threw 95 pitches across eight innings, gave up four hits and one run, and struck out two. Troy Johnston had tripled in the first run two innings earlier. The Giants left three on base all night and made two errors behind Landen Roupp, who needed 91 pitches for five and two-thirds. Freeland threw 66 of 95 for strikes and walked one. Brennan Bernardino gave up a run in the ninth but the lead was three by then, and Freeland's eight innings meant nobody in the Colorado bullpen had to warm up before the eighth.
