Hermosillo to Houston

Isaac Paredes was eight years old, walking nearly two miles under the Sonora sun to Little League practice in Hermosillo, his grandmother Gloria beside him. She raised him. He calls her his mother. He promised her she would one day watch him play in the majors in person. She did, in April 2024, sitting in Tropicana Field while Paredes played for the Rays.

The majors have had him for seven seasons now. On June 28, 2026, in an Astros uniform, he hit his 100th career home run.

The Circuit

The path has bent more than once. Paredes signed with the Cubs as an international free agent out of Mexico in July 2015 for a $500,000 bonus. On the day he signed, his grandmother found an old photo of toddler Isaac in a full Cubs uniform. Two years later the Cubs sent him and Jeimer Candelario to Detroit for Alex Avila and Justin Wilson. He debuted with the Tigers on August 17, 2020, against the White Sox, and hit his first career home run four days later — a grand slam off Cleveland. Tampa Bay acquired him in 2022, and he spent three seasons there, making his first All-Star team in 2024. The Cubs brought him back at the 2024 deadline, the same organization he had signed with as a teenager, and he dug up the old photo again. Houston acquired him ahead of 2025. His second All-Star selection came with the Astros that year.

Paredes is 27, a right-handed third baseman in his seventh major-league season with a .770 career OPS across 663 games. This year he has 14 home runs through 97 games for Houston. Astros third base coach Tony Perezchica has called him a hard worker who trusts the process and puts in the effort. He is in his second year with the Astros, at third base.
