Scout’s note
Seager holds the last slot on the breakout board — No. 20 of 20 — but the shape is no courtesy. His EV95 of 107.7 is harder than 74 percent of 372 qualified hitters, above a league median of 105.9, and his luck gap of -0.0548 means his results have run further below the physics than 94 percent of the sample. Charlotte-born, a 2012 first-round pick who debuted in 2015, he is 32 now with 234 career home runs and a .865 OPS across 1,203 games. He has played only 72 games this season — .232 with 13 home runs — but the last two weeks show the line catching fire: .419, a 1.164 OPS, two homers in 12 games. The barrel has been ahead of the box score all year; lately the box score is finding it.

A base salary under his own reading, and never subtracted from the cash figure above: a signing bonus lands in one and not the other, so the two disagree on most men without either being wrong. And the sheet does not mark which future seasons are GUARANTEED — a club option and a projected arbitration award are both just a number here, so read past the end of the deal as his forecast rather than as money owed.
Two sources, read a month apart, put this guarantee at the same dollar. That is the check, and it passed.
The tax AAV above is his number under the CBA’s own rulebook, not the average we work out from Cot’s total. On a contract with deferred money the two come apart on purpose — and neither is subtracted from the other.
