Jacob Latz

Scout’s note

Jacob Latz sits in the Index without a board grade, and that's the engine's discipline, not a slight: our stuff model isn't outcome-validated yet, so no arm gets a flag off it — not even a lefty from Lemont who's run a 2.13 ERA across 72 MLB innings with 83 strikeouts and 30 saves, tenth in the game. The ERA-FIP luck gap did trip our manual regression call, which is the one place the science lets us act. A fifth-round pick out of the 2017 draft, Latz is 30 now and matters enough to track while the board waits.

Current signals

The read: Latz is in the Index ungraded, on purpose: our stuff model is stability-tested but not outcome-validated, so no big-league arm gets a board flag from it — not even one of the best seasons in the sport. (Calls are another matter: the ERA-FIP luck gap did clear the bar, and we file arm regression calls by hand from it.) The page is here because the player matters; the board grade waits for the science.
