Javier Sanoja came out of Maracay, Venezuela, and reached the majors last September at 24, standing 5' 7" and 150 pounds. His first full MLB season in Miami is a revelation — .295 with an .791 OPS, 11 home runs, and 69 RBI over 144 games, with only 39 strikeouts. But the engine reads a gap. His EV95 of 103.41 runs more than two miles shy of the league median of 105.8, and his luck gap of 0.0515 means his results are outrunning his contact by more than 97 percent of the 406 qualified hitters we track. At No. 14 of 15 on the fade board with an overlay of -0.4934, the engine sees a young hitter who has been generous to himself. He is fast enough at 28.6 ft/s to leg out what the bat can't always square, but 419 balls in play is enough sample to trust the read.
