Pete Alonso is hitting the ball like a man owed more than he has collected. His EV95 of 109.4 puts him above 90 percent of the 372 qualified hitters in our sample, well north of the league median of 105.9, but a luck gap of -0.0512 means his results on contact have run further below the physics than 92 percent of those same bats. He is No. 14 on the breakout board, and the last two weeks look like the gap closing on its own: .447 with five home runs in 12 games. Tampa-born, a 2016 second-round pick who debuted in 2019, Alonso is 31 now, in Baltimore, with 294 career home runs already on the ledger.
