Sommers came in and did not retire a batter, allowing four hits and three earned runs before Kenley Jansen could get the third out of the inning, and what had been a 6-3 Texas lead became 9-3. Josh Smith hit his first home run of the season to right field an inning earlier, and Nathan Eovaldi struck out nine over five innings to earn the win. Framber Valdez took the loss, and Detroit's starter allowed nine hits and five earned runs in five innings. The Tigers left ten on base and trailed from the second inning on.
