The lore
The Gold Bridge Past Right Field
A park built for Triple-A in 2000 became a major-league home in 2025, with a gold bridge beyond right field as its signature.
Sutter Health Park sits in West Sacramento, across the Sacramento River from downtown Sacramento, about a seven-minute drive from the State Capitol. The sightline that defines the place runs past the right-field fence: the Tower Bridge, built in the 1930s and painted gold, spanning the river above the 325-foot mark. When the Athletics arrived in 2025, the bridge and the script word "Sacramento" went on a sleeve patch on every A's jersey — the park's most identifiable feature rendered as shorthand for a franchise between permanent homes.
The Ground
The building opened on May 15, 2000, as Raley Field. HNTB designed it at a cost of $46.5 million; the Raley's supermarket chain bought 20 years of naming rights for $15 million. The name changed to Sutter Health Park after the 2019 season, but the structure is the same one that has housed the Triple-A Sacramento River Cats since opening day. It held the 2005 Triple-A All-Star Game, an 11–5 Pacific Coast League win over the International League, before the Athletics arrived as a temporary major-league tenant on March 31, 2025, while their Las Vegas park is built. The 2026 season is its 2nd major-league season.
The dimensions are nearly symmetrical: 330 down the left-field line, 380 to left-center, 403 to center, 380 to right-center, 325 down the right-field line. The field is natural grass at an elevation of 24 feet, and capacity is 14,111.
The Opener
The first major-league game at the park was a rough welcome. On March 31, 2025, the Chicago Cubs beat the Athletics 18–3, and Cubs catcher Carson Kelly hit for the cycle in front of 12,192 fans — a memorable but deflating opener for a relocated franchise in a yard built for a different level of baseball.
The A's inherited a known nuisance from the minor-league years. The old batter's eye sat well back behind the outfield wall and reflected sun and stadium lights, causing depth-perception problems that hit catchers hardest. The fix was a new Fenway-green rectangle placed directly at the edge of the center-field fence. Beneath the grass, an underground AirPAT system manages root oxygenation, temperature, and moisture to support the near-daily traffic of two clubs — the A's and the River Cats — sharing one field.
The Athletics are the major-league tenant here in 2026.
