Scout’s note
Brent Rooker is 31, a Germantown product the Athletics are running out at DH, and the engine says his bat is doing more than his line lets on. His EV95 of 108.675 puts him in the top 15 percent of 372 qualified hitters — north of the 105.9 median — while his results on contact trail the physics more than 98 percent of the sample. That -0.0686 luck gap is the distance between how hard he's squaring balls and the .200 average he's carrying through 48 games. A supplemental first-round pick in 2017, Rooker has 119 career home runs and a .815 career OPS, so the power is established; what the engine sees is a season where the contact is louder than the numbers, which is why he ranks No. 7 on the breakout board. The strikeouts — 65 in 48 games — are part of the package, but the ball is coming off his bat harder than 10 home runs and 29 RBI would suggest.

Current signals
The read: Rooker is hitting the ball harder than 84% of the 373 qualified MLB hitters in our sample (EV95 108.7; league median 105.8), while his results on contact run further below the physics than 98% of them. Loud bat, quieter stat line — the breakout shape; he ranks No. 7 of 20 on the breakout board.

A base salary under his own reading, and never subtracted from the cash figure above: a signing bonus lands in one and not the other, so the two disagree on most men without either being wrong. And the sheet does not mark which future seasons are GUARANTEED — a club option and a projected arbitration award are both just a number here, so read past the end of the deal as his forecast rather than as money owed.
Two sources, read a month apart, put this guarantee at the same dollar. That is the check, and it passed.
The tax AAV above is his number under the CBA’s own rulebook, not the average we work out from Cot’s total. On a contract with deferred money the two come apart on purpose — and neither is subtracted from the other.
