Nick Allen is a third-round pick from 2017, a 5'7" shortstop out of San Diego who debuted in April 2022 and has now played 476 major-league games — the kind of grinder who stays on a roster because he catches everything at short and puts the ball in play. This season in Houston he's hitting .283 with a .720 OPS over 94 games, and that line is the problem. Allen's EV95 is 103.0, nearly three ticks under the league median of 105.8, and his luck gap of 0.0753 places him above 99% of qualified hitters — seventh on the fade board.
