The Cubs had seven hits and left five on base, and the one run they pushed across was unearned, scoring in the eighth on an error the Giants committed themselves. Webb threw 106 pitches — 73 strikes — across eight innings, striking out seven without a walk. Colin Rea took the loss: 4.2 innings, six hits, four earned, three walks. Chapman's seventh of the year came on a 92.1 mph sinker, scoring Drew Gilbert, who had doubled in Jung Hoo Lee one batter earlier. Bryce Eldridge added an RBI single in the seventh. Caleb Kilian needed 15 pitches for the ninth.
