Parker Messick struck out ten in 7.2 innings and allowed three hits. He lost. The Guardians gave him one run, and Kahlil Watson — who hadn't homered all year — took a 94.5 mph fastball over the wall in the fifth for his first. Miguel Vargas added his 17th in the sixth, and that was the ballgame. Sean Burke gave Chicago six and a third innings of one-run ball, and Sean Newcomb covered the last eight outs without allowing a hit. Cleveland had six hits and left seven on base against a staff that gave them nothing to work with.
