Matthew Boyd gave Baltimore three hits in six innings and struck out seven. Zero runs, two walks, 93 pitches. Alex Bregman drove in the first run on a 1-2 knuckle curve, scoring Miguel Amaya, and the Cubs added on from there. Shane Baz took the loss with six innings of three-run ball — three walks, three strikeouts, 100 pitches. The Orioles got two back in the seventh on Adley Rutschman's two-run single, helped by a throwing error from Seiya Suzuki. Trent Thornton worked a clean ninth for the save. Pete Alonso singled at 111.9 mph — the hardest contact of the night — and it was one of 10 Cubs hits. Baltimore left seven on base.
