CJ Abrams put Washington ahead in the 1st with his 29th homer, a two-run shot on a 79.2 mph sweeper. The Cubs answered across the next four innings. Jake Irvin could not get through the 4th — 3.1 innings, 5 earned runs, 88 pitches — and Pete Crow-Armstrong's 27th left the bat at 111.5 mph and traveled 437 feet. Seiya Suzuki's RBI double in the 4th was 109.7 mph off the bat. Washington scored twice in the 8th to close within two, but Jacob Webb got the last four outs, two by strikeout, for the save.
