The Glove That Got Him Here

Miguel Rojas reached 1,000 hits the same way he reached the majors — by surviving on defense when the bat wasn't enough.

1,000 career hits · LAD

Los Teques to Billings

Miguel Rojas arrived in the United States in 2006, signed by the Cincinnati Reds as an amateur free agent out of Los Teques, Venezuela. His first professional stop was the Billings Mustangs. He hit poorly and spoke limited English. A host family that knew some Spanish helped him with the language, and Rojas earned a promotion the next year by focusing on defense — on being a complete player when the bat wasn't enough.

He progressed through Cincinnati's system until 2012, then elected free agency and signed a minor-league deal with the Dodgers. Growing up, he had idolized defensive wizard Omar Vizquel. Rojas would spend 13 seasons in the majors.

A Thousand

On April 20, 2026, Rojas collected his 1,000th career hit. He was 37. The number came in his fourth season back with the Dodgers. He had debuted with Los Angeles on June 6, 2014, as a defensive replacement, then spent eight years with the Miami Marlins (2015–2022) before returning in 2023. He has played 1,377 games and hit .261. He is married to Mariana, and their two children, Aaron and Skye, were both born in the United States.

Stay Ready

Dave Roberts has described Rojas as epitomizing everything he believes in as a teammate. In Game 7 of the 2025 World Series, ninth inning, the Dodgers trailing by one with two outs, Rojas hit a game-tying home run. Later in the same game, he made a defensive stop at second base that prevented a series-winning run. The Dodgers won their second straight championship.

He is still at second base for Los Angeles at 37, with 48 hits in 80 games this season.
