Scout’s note
A compensatory first-round pick in 2020 out of San Diego, Alika Williams debuted in July 2023 and has 153 major-league games, all of them trying to prove the glove and the bat can coexist at shortstop. The engine flags the bat: an EV95 of 104.08, below the league median of 105.8, but a luck gap of 0.0841 — his results are outrunning his contact more than 99% of qualified hitters. The board has him No. 2 of 15 on the fade list. His .272 average and .740 OPS in 70 games for the Athletics this season are the line the engine is questioning. The last 14 MLB days were strong — a 1.078 OPS in eight games — but five strikeouts in that span and the underlying contact say the hot stretch is built on sand. The sprint speed of 27.8 is fine; the question is whether the ball comes off hot enough to last.

Current signals
The read: Williams's results are outrunning his contact by more than 99% of the 382 qualified MLB hitters we track — an EV95 of 104.0 (league median 105.7) doesn't usually buy this stat line. Gaps like his tend to close from above; No. 2 of 15 on the fade board.

No hollow dots on his strip. He had not reached 100 balls in play by , so there is no earlier place to mark. He has 126 now.

Regime read from his service time, not from the sheet — it does not project him past this season. Super Two eligibility is the top 22% of a class and can move this line in a way service time alone cannot see.
Cash and the tax hit are two different rulebooks and are never subtracted from one another — see the payroll board for his club, Athletics.

A base salary under his own reading, and never subtracted from the cash figure above: a signing bonus lands in one and not the other, so the two disagree on most men without either being wrong. And the sheet does not mark which future seasons are GUARANTEED — a club option and a projected arbitration award are both just a number here, so read past the end of the deal as his forecast rather than as money owed.
The tax AAV above is his number under the CBA’s own rulebook, not the average we work out from Cot’s total. On a contract with deferred money the two come apart on purpose — and neither is subtracted from the other.
