Nick Pivetta threw 69 pitches in three innings — seven hits, six earned, three walks — and Kevin McGonigle's two-run double in the first, on a 91.2 mph cutter at 0-0, set the tone for everything that followed. Dillon Dingler's two-run homer in the fifth, his first of the year at 106 mph off the bat and 403 feet to left center, gave Detroit their final margin. Skubal worked six innings on 74 pitches, allowing one unearned run, and the San Diego bullpen held the Tigers scoreless for four innings after Pivetta left, which only meant the damage was already done.
