Miguel Amaya singled in the second and homered in the fourth — both to left center, both off Miles Mikolas, who needed 97 pitches for five innings. The home run, Amaya's first of the year, came on a 92.6 mph sinker at 1-1. James Wood's solo shot in the same inning, 110 mph off the bat, was Washington's answer and nearly its whole night. Ian Happ's three-run line drive in the sixth, also his first of the year, broke it open. Horton threw 53 of 75 pitches for strikes and left with an 8-2 lead that the bullpen protected without allowing a hit.
