The Pirates left eleven men on base and still found a way, because Ryan O'Hearn's ground-ball single through center in the 10th was enough when the arm behind the lead was Oneil Cruz's. Francisco Lindor tried to score from first on Juan Soto's double and Cruz — a shortstop playing center field — threw him out at the plate to end the inning with the Mets still one run short. Both starters struck out eight: Carmen Mlodzinski in 4.1 innings for Pittsburgh, Nolan McLean in five for New York. Brandon Lowe's solo homer in the 3rd, his third of the season, was the run that forced extras. Soto's double gave the Mets their last real chance, and Cruz took it away with one throw.
