Will Vest faced five hitters in the eighth and retired two of them, and Jose Fernandez's three-run homer — his second of the night — capped a six-run inning that turned a 5-1 Detroit lead into a 7-5 Arizona win. Casey Mize had given Detroit six innings of one-run baseball, and the lead lasted until the eighth found three relievers who couldn't hold it.
