The first inning lasted five Minnesota runs, and Framber Valdez never recovered — ten hits and eight earned runs in five innings of work. Royce Lewis's two-run single on a 94.8 mph sinker was the fourth hit of the inning, and by then the Tigers were already digging out of a hole that grew deeper. Detroit scored four in the sixth and seventh to cut the lead to two, and Gleyber Torres's first double of the year drove in two, but the Tigers left eleven on base. Bailey Ober got the win with 5.2 innings and two earned runs, and Kody Funderburk came in for the last two outs and walked one without striking out a hitter.
