Ten strikeouts, no walks, three hits over seven innings — Jacob deGrom threw 94 pitches, 65 for strikes, and the Cubs did not get a runner to third. Texas scored once in the fourth on a fielder's choice and did not add to it until Evan Carter's two-run homer to right in the eighth on a 3-2 slider. Jameson Taillon took the loss with one earned in 5.1 innings, and the Cubs gave him nothing to work with. Jacob Latz threw two innings for the save, and Chicago finished with three hits and three left on base.
