Angel Martínez opened the scoring with his seventh home run of the year, and the Angels spent the rest of the night behind. Messick threw 104 pitches — 60 for strikes — across 6.2 innings and left with a lead the bullpen never touched. Cade Smith struck out the side in the ninth on fourteen pitches. Reid Detmers struck out six but needed 102 pitches for 5.2 innings, and two of the four runs against him were unearned — the Angels committed two errors. Zach Neto's two-run homer in the fifth tied it at 2, but Daniel Schneemann's RBI single in the sixth put Cleveland ahead for good.
