Dingler's tenth homer of the year came in the first on a 2-1 cutter at 82.9, scoring McGonigle, and it was the only run Melton needed for five innings. Melton gave up two hits and walked three, but Baltimore could not break through — Basallo's sacrifice fly in the fourth was all they got. McGonigle added the cushion in the fifth with a two-run single to center on a 3-2 changeup, scoring Torkelson and Pérez. Trevor Rogers took the loss: 4.2 innings, four earned, 90 pitches. Albert Suárez threw four innings of relief and gave up nothing, but the deficit was already there. Drew Anderson needed 45 pitches to get six outs, but he struck out four and walked two, and the game ended with Detroit up three.
