Valdez gave Baltimore one run over six innings and left with the game tied. Detroit took the lead in the fourth on Vierling's single and Keith's sac fly, and after Henderson's eleventh in the sixth tied it, Torkelson's RBI single in the eighth put the Tigers back ahead. Ward answered for Baltimore in the same inning. Then the ninth: Jansen came in protecting a one-run lead, walked two, and gave up a 0-0 homer to Cowser — his second of the season, 111.5 mph off the bat, 440 feet to center. Holliday and Taveras were on base. Jansen threw 24 pitches and got nobody out. Brandon Young had given Baltimore 6.2 innings of two-run ball, and Enns covered the rest. Cowser had been waiting for his second of the year, and it came on the swing that ended the game.
