Ohtani's home run left the bat at 111.3 mph and traveled 424 feet to center, and that was the first inning — he then threw 99 pitches over six innings on the mound, allowed no hits and one run, struck out seven, and walked four. Freddie Freeman followed him in the first with a home run on an 80.1 mph curveball, and the Dodgers led 2-0 before Colorado had settled in. Tomoyuki Sugano took the loss with three earned in 4.2 innings, and Colorado managed one hit for the game. Andy Pages added a line-drive homer to left in the eighth, and Kyle Hurt struck out one in a clean ninth for the save.
