Kevin Gausman threw 68 pitches and only 35 were strikes, and by the time he left after two innings the game was already gone. Carson Kelly swung at the first pitch he saw — an 83.6 mph slider — and drove it 428 feet with the bases loaded in the first, and Ben Brown only needed to throw strikes from there: 51 of 72 across six innings with no walks. The hardest ball Toronto hit all night was Kazuma Okamoto's 106.8 mph flyout that traveled 397 feet and ended an at-bat. For a club that needed its starter to give them a chance, two innings is not a start. It is a bill the bullpen pays for a week.
