Tarik Skubal allowed one hit over six innings, struck out nine, and threw 61 strikes in 87 pitches — and the Tigers had already scored four before the first inning ended. Kerry Carpenter, Riley Greene, and Spencer Torkelson all homered in the first, three swings that made it 4-1. Greene hit his second of the night in the third, a two-run shot on a 97.8 mph sinker, his 11th. Cam Schlittler gave up six earned runs in four innings for New York, and Ben Rice's solo homer in the first was the only swing the Yankees had that mattered.
