Gerrit Cole allowed two runs in five innings, struck out seven, and threw 88 pitches, and the Yankees' bullpen did the rest. Kody Clemens homered in the first to give Minnesota a brief lead before Trent Grisham answered with a solo shot. Ben Rice put New York ahead in the third with a two-run homer on a 93.3 mph four-seamer — his 24th. Victor Caratini singled in a run in the fourth to cut it to 3-2, but José Caballero and Grisham each drove in a run in the seventh. David Bednar struck out three in the ninth on 17 pitches. Minnesota did not score after the fourth.
