A 1-1 game in the eighth, and Colson Montgomery put a 94.6 mph sinker at 2-2 into the right-field seats — 402 feet, his 22nd home run, and the one that decided it. Sean Burke gave the White Sox six innings and 11 strikeouts, which is the kind of number that should last. Cleveland put seven hits on the board and committed two errors, and six men left on base in a two-run loss is the arithmetic of a team that could not find the extra base. Tim Herrin took the loss on one inning, one hit, one run. Miguel Vargas added a sacrifice fly in the ninth on a 91.8 mph cutter to give Chicago its final margin.
