Javier Assad gave the Dodgers one run over five and two-thirds innings, and four relievers behind him gave them nothing else. Skubal gave up two runs over six — Kyle Tucker's homer in the second and Dansby Swanson's in the third — and it should have kept the game within reach. The Dodgers have four hits and one run in the box score, and three of those hits came after the sixth inning when the score was already decided. Nico Hoerner's single in the sixth broke the tie, and his home run in the eighth put it away. Skubal threw 85 pitches and 51 were strikes, and the lineup behind him produced nothing after the second inning. Four Chicago relievers combined for three and a third innings and did not allow a hit.
