Eduardo Valencia drove in the first run of the game and the one that held up, but they were different swings four innings apart. His single in the first scored Hao-Yu Lee on a 95.5 mph sinker at 3-1. His sixth homer of the season came in the fourth on an 87 mph changeup at 2-2, and it gave Chicago a lead they would hand to the bullpen. Colson Montgomery's two-run double in the third — on a 3-2 changeup — was the swing that put the White Sox in front after Detroit had answered. Jordan Hicks came in for Anthony Kay in the sixth and struck out three in 1.2 innings without allowing a baserunner. Bryan Hudson worked the ninth for the save. Drew Sommers took the loss on Andrew Benintendi's RBI single in the seventh, a ground ball deflected by shortstop Kevin McGonigle.
