For six innings, Mike Trout's first-inning home run — his 21st, a 104.8 mph drive to center — was the only run on the board. Cade Cavalli struck out nine over six innings and left trailing 1-0, but the Washington lineup finally arrived in the eighth. Samy Natera gave up three hits and three runs in the inning, and Jorbit Vivas's line drive to right scored two of them. Christian Moore's double in the ninth brought the Angels within one, but Erik Tolman recorded the last out with the tying run on base.
