The lead changed three times. Ben Ross hit the first triple of his season in the fifth and scored on Luke Keaschall's sacrifice fly to tie it at two — the kind of small play this game turned on. Shay Whitcomb's two-run single in the fourth had put San Francisco ahead; Keaschall's homer in the third had opened the scoring. In the seventh, Walker Jenkins singled home Kody Clemens on a first-pitch curveball, and Josh Bell followed with a line drive to center that scored Jenkins. That was the margin. Dylan Smith took the loss: two-thirds of an inning, two hits, two runs. Connor Prielipp went five and a third for Minnesota and left with the game tied. Andrew Morris saved it with a strikeout-heavy ninth.
