Gavin Williams needed only 85 pitches for seven innings, struck out ten, walked three, and allowed two hits — and the home run Gabriel Arias hit off Yoshinobu Yamamoto in the third was the only run the Guardians needed for five frames. Arias's first of the year came on a 3-1 curveball, left the bat at 107.4 mph, and traveled 407 feet to center field. José Ramírez added a two-run shot off Tanner Scott in the eighth, his first of the season at 105.4 mph, and Freddie Freeman's ninth-inning homer came too late to matter. Yamamoto went six innings, gave up four hits and two earned, and struck out two.
