Trevor Megill threw 9 pitches and the Nationals scored four. A safety squeeze, a throwing error on the pitcher, another sacrifice bunt — Washington manufactured the ninth the way a team does when it has stopped swinging for the fence. James Wood's 116.3 mph double, the hardest contact of the night, arrived after the lead was already decided. Milwaukee put up three in the first on Jake Bauers' 428-foot homer and managed four hits all game. Jake Irvin gave Washington five innings, walked five, and needed 100 pitches to do it. Chad Patrick's three scoreless innings in relief were the best work the Brewers got all night, and Megill's 9 pitches undid them.
