Burger's first home run came off the bat at 113.6 mph and traveled 417 feet — a three-run shot in the first on a 95.9 mph sinker. His second came in the third on a 97.0 mph sinker, same count. Eovaldi made both stand up: seven innings, three hits, no runs, 84 pitches, 53 strikes. Severino struck out seven over six and left down four. Smith's two-run single in the eighth survived a tag-play challenge, and Jung followed with a two-run double. Butler's second homer of the year in the eighth was the only run the Athletics managed. Curvelo needed 19 pitches to cover the last two innings.
