Alec Burleson's two-run homer in the fifth left the bat at 108.4 mph and traveled 411 feet, and for a while it looked like cushion enough. Then the seventh inning happened — both clubs scored, St. Louis two and Pittsburgh two. Riley O'Brien threw 11 pitches in the ninth and got the save. Andre Pallante gave the Cardinals six innings of one-run ball and didn't walk anybody, which is the only reason a one-run lead survived what came after. Nick Yorke's two-run single in the seventh pulled Pittsburgh within one, and the Pirates left 11 on base.
