Chase DeLauter's single through the left side in the fifth scored Austin Hedges and Petey Halpin — the only runs Cleveland would need — and it came on a 97.6 mph sinker at 2-0. Joey Cantillo gave the Guardians five innings of one-run ball, and the bullpen handled the rest: Matt Festa, Erik Sabrowski, Hunter Gaddis, and Cade Smith, who struck out the side in the ninth for the save on 16 pitches. Cole Ragans threw three scoreless to start for Kansas City, but Luinder Avila gave up the two runs in the fifth. Salvador Perez's sacrifice fly in the third had given Kansas City its only lead. David Fry added an insurance run in the eighth on a 5-6-3 groundout. The Royals left six on and made the game's only error.
