Logan Gilbert struck out nine over six innings, allowed one hit, walked nobody — 87 pitches — and the Mariners lost. Eduard Bazardo threw 15 pitches in the eighth and gave up two runs, the first on Randal Grichuk's homer to left on an 0-2 sweeper at 83.3 mph. Drew Romo's double at 108.6 mph set up the sac fly that put Chicago ahead, and Seranthony Domínguez came in for the ninth with two hits already on and got out of it. Seattle put seven hits on the card and left nine men on base in a one-run loss that wasted the best start of the night.
