Chris Sale threw 100 pitches across six innings, allowed five hits, and the one run charged to him was unearned — a sixth-inning forceout that scored Ian Happ after an Atlanta error. Ben Brown gave Chicago four innings of one-hit ball with seven strikeouts, and four relievers each took a frame and allowed one hit, none of them scoring. Ian Happ's home run to right center in the eighth — 424 feet, 107.6 mph — was the only ball that left the yard. Sale left having thrown 65 of his 100 pitches for strikes, and took the loss anyway.
