Toronto carried a 5-3 lead into the 7th, and Yariel Rodríguez needed one out to escape the inning with it. He did not get it for four batters. Aaron Judge reached, Cody Bellinger hit a 2-run homer, and after Jazz Chisholm Jr. went back-to-back, the lead had changed hands for the fourth and final time. Rodríguez threw 20 pitches and recorded one out. Ernie Clement's 3-run homer in the 4th — on an 0-2 changeup, the kind of count where a hitter is supposed to be fighting off — had been the swing that put Toronto in front. It held for two and a half innings. One-third of an inning is a small space to lose that.
