Abrams put a cutter into the right-field seats with two on in the first inning, and the Mets spent the rest of the night climbing a hill that kept getting steeper. Soto hit two home runs — one in the third, one in the eighth — and both times Washington answered in the same inning. Andrew Alvarez covered the last four innings for the save, and the Mets managed seven hits and left three on base.
