Eduardo Rodriguez went seven innings on 99 pitches, 63 strikes, four hits, no runs. Agnos matched him early — five innings, one hit, four strikeouts — and the game was scoreless through five. Carroll's forceout in the sixth put Arizona ahead, but Colorado tied it in the eighth when Freeman was hit by a 98.4 mph sinker, scoring Johnston. In the ninth, Mejia walked two before Carroll singled on an 85.4 mph sweeper at 2-2 to score Moreno. Arizona left ten on base. Rodriguez struck out four and walked one in seven innings and the Diamondbacks still needed the last at-bat to win.
