The diamond fills teal when the run scores; the out lands in the box of the runner it was made on. Names link to their pages at www.feverbaseball.com. New to the marks? The primer scores a full inning from scratch. Every pitch under these marks is typed, clocked and located off the same official feed. A hand-scorer could record what happened; nobody could record the pitch that did it.

Eight hits and one run — that is the line that tells you everything about Chicago's night, because the Cubs left eleven men on base and never produced the swing that mattered. Braxton Ashcraft worked six and a third, gave up that single run, struck out five, and watched his offense settle things early. Jordan Wicks allowed eight earned in four and a third, and the first inning buried him: Bryan Reynolds doubled home two at 110.4 mph off the bat, and Esmerlyn Valdez hit his second home run of the season. Two homers in May is not a breakthrough, but for a young hitter it is the first evidence that the ball will carry. Spencer Horwitz added one in the seventh, and the margin only grew.
