Happ's three-run homer in the seventh — his 11th of the year, to right field — broke a 4-4 tie, and Yohan Ramírez was the pitcher who gave it up: four earned in a third of an inning. Brandon Lowe had already hit a three-run shot in the third, his 14th, and Pete Crow-Armstrong doubled at 108.9 mph to score another in the fourth. Bubba Chandler struck out five in five innings for Pittsburgh but allowed four earned, and the Cubs' bullpen threw four scoreless innings behind Jameson Taillon. Chicago left 13 on base and still scored ten, and the Pirates' pitching staff issued six walks.
