Refsnyder's line-drive shot to left came on a 79.2 mph changeup and scored J.P. Crawford and Josh Naylor, and that was the first inning. Logan Gilbert threw six shutout innings on 91 pitches and struck out six, and the Athletics did not score until the late innings. Colt Emerson hit his first triple of the year in the fourth — a line drive to right that scored two on a 78.8 mph sweeper — and Julio Rodríguez put a 97.2 mph fastball into the left-center seats in the eighth to make it nine. Jeffrey Springs took the loss, charged with five runs — only two earned — over five innings, and the Athletics' two errors turned a long night longer.
