New York answered Miami run for run in the third, fourth, and seventh — each inning producing one run for each side — and then added two in the tenth off Pete Fairbanks, who threw four pitches and took the loss. One of those runs was unearned, on a day Washington committed two errors. Miami had 13 hits and left seven on base. Mark Vientos's 445-foot home run in the third, 109.2 mph off the bat, was the hardest swing that produced a run all night, and it only tied the game. The Mets left four on base, made no errors, and scored nine runs on eight hits. The two they scored in the tenth were the first runs either team had managed without an answer since the first inning.
