Carson Benge homered in the sixth and tripled in the eighth — the triple a 106.4 mph drive that carried 389 feet — and the rookie's two extra-base hits bookended a night when the Mets never trailed. Randy Vásquez gave up eight hits in four innings, and the San Diego bullpen gave up five more. Freddy Fermin's two-run homer in the fifth, his second of the year, was the swing that stretched the lead past reaching distance. Sean Manaea only lasted four innings, but the lineup gave him seven runs and the relievers behind him made it hold.
