Five lead changes in five innings is the kind of night where every pitcher is working from behind. Buxton homered in the 1st, Greene answered in the 2nd, Bell and Lee traded shots in the 3rd and 5th, and then Kerry Carpenter hit a two-run homer in the 5th that gave Detroit a lead they would not give back. Taj Bradley took the loss with 4.1 innings, seven hits, and five earned runs, and Minnesota's bullpen gave up five more in relief. Detroit hit four home runs. Troy Melton won it with five innings of four-run ball, and Kyle Finnegan covered the last 1.2 innings without allowing a hit.
